Episode 7: The BGC Passion Fest 2010 Food Tour! (Prologue)

Last Friday (April 30),  I came across Old Manila Walks, the homepage of the famous walking tours of Binondo, Manila. I’ve always been fascinated by these tours, and I almost joined one of them out of my interest in the history and sights of Manila’s Chinatown… Who am I kidding, I was after the food (see my first Aikyatchi).

Out of impulse, I checked out the schedules of their next tours. Behold, there’s one at the Bonifacio Global City, it’s a food tour, and it’s free!

Turns out, though, that they already had a tour at BGC last April 24, and the next one was on May 1… TOMORROW! I asked about the tour, but alas, the online registration was full and I was waitlisted. This did not stop me and my brother MC from going to BGC the next day to take our chances for slots at the tour.
And weren’t we in for a surprise: despite being in the waiting list, we’ve been included in the tour!

The food tour is part of the BGC Passion Fest 2010, BGC’s yearly summer event. The BGC Passion Fest is a celebration of people’s passion for the arts, music, fashion, and sports. It aims to serve as a venue for like-minded people to fuel their interests, and inspire them to make the most of their creativity and passion. BGC itself is being touted as a “home of passionate minds,” a place to be in this summer.
True enough, all over Bonifacio High Street are various spaces and activity venues for artworks, musicians, music lovers, gamers, skaters, outdoor enthusiasts, and yes, food lovers too! Which is exactly why we were here in the first place.

Old Manila Walks’ food and culture guide Ivan Man Dy is the leader of the food tour. He accompanied us foodies, critics, and bloggers as we went around to sample various dishes offered by some of BGC’s well-known restaurants and food spots.

Seven restaurants were in the tour line-up: Cupcakes by Sonja, Miss Desserts, Polu Kai Grill, Italianni’s, The Stock Market, Trio Italian Bistro, and Amber Ultralounge.

Without further ado, let the BGC Passion Fest Food Tour begin. Itadakimasu.
